American Bullies vs. Pit Bulls: The Basics
Let’s start by clearing the air. While both of these breeds share some common roots, they’re definitely not the same. The confusion often comes from their muscular builds and the fact that American Bullies actually have some Pit Bull blood in them. But here’s the catch—American Bullies are like the cool cousins of Pit Bulls who went to the gym more and learned to chill out.
Origins
**Pit Bulls** are a much older breed, dating back to 19th-century England, where they were originally bred for bull-baiting (yikes!). Eventually, they became known for their loyalty and strength, especially in the U.S.
**American Bullies** on the other hand, are relatively new on the block. They were first developed in the ‘80s and ‘90s by crossbreeding American Pit Bull Terriers with other breeds like the American Bulldog and even English Bulldogs, resulting in a stockier, more laid-back dog.
Size and Build

Temperament
Spoiler Alert—Bullies Are Total Love Bugs! We’re often asked if Bullies have the same “tough guy” reputation as Pit Bulls, and we’re happy to say *nope*! While both breeds are incredibly loyal and affectionate with their families, American Bullies were specifically bred to be companions. They have an easygoing, playful nature that makes them great with kids and other pets.
**Pit Bulls** are energetic, intelligent, and can be protective—traits that make them excellent working dogs. However, they do require experienced training and socialization to be their best selves.
**American Bullies** on the other hand, are more like giant lap dogs. They love attention, are super friendly, and have a much lower drive for aggression. They’re basically the dog version of a teddy bear… but one that’s also got some serious muscle!

Trainability and Energy Levels
